We have our doubts about the leads in this action laced L.A. police procedural: Gyllenhaal and Peña are best known as a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain and a mall security guard in Observe and Report, respectively. So why do we hold out hope for this project? Helping this duo make the leap to credibility as Los Angeles cops is director David Ayer, who wrote Training Day, and the plot has them in over their heads after confiscating a pile of money and guns from a cartel following a routine traffic stop. Plus, the film is fully shot in jittery HD, to pulse quickening effect, we hear. Worth a peek.
